St. Johns Council on Aging: A Legacy of Care and a Vision for the Future The St. Johns Council on Aging (COA) has been a cornerstone of the community since its founding in 1973. Originally established to provide modest meal services, the organization has evolved into a comprehensive resource serving the diverse needs of older adults, their families, and caregivers.

Today, the COA operates six senior community centers across St. Johns County, offering a vibrant hub for socialization, education, and wellness. Programs range from exercise and art classes to support groups and social clubs. The COA's commitment to enhancing seniors' quality of life is evident in its Meals on Wheels program, delivering over 300 meals daily to homebound residents, and specialized services like Integrative Memory Enhancement and adult daycare. Additionally, the organization provides invaluable support, education, and respite care for caregivers. Recognizing the growing demand for its services and a desire to create a more welcoming and accessible environment, the COA is undertaking a $1.3 million renovation of its main facility at 180 Marine Street. This project, designed in collaboration with Open City Architecture, aims to transform the campus into a modern and inviting space that better serves the needs of its senior residents.

Key improvements include a new, accessible entrance, enhanced outdoor spaces, modernized facilities, and ADA-compliant pathways. These enhancements will not only improve the physical appearance of the campus but also significantly enhance the overall well-being of residents. The COA is actively fundraising to complete the project and is excited to create a space where seniors can thrive and enjoy their golden years. This initial phase is just the beginning of a broader plan to further enhance the COA's facilities and programs, solidifying its position as a premier destination for seniors in St. Johns County.
